Organize as a religious organization?

Wanted to share something I’ve thought about for some time now. It may be something for some nodes or communities in some states to think about even though it may sound crazy to most of you. Also this post isn’t in anyway to talk about anyone’s religious or non-religious affiliations.

Most of you probably know that many states have some sort of religious protection act. They do create an option for some communities. Most of these acts have vague descriptions of what a “church” is. Any group could easily establish a “church” and find a lot of protection under these acts. There actually needs to be no specific spiritual or religious belief only that as a group we share these certain beliefs. They can include about anything that pertains to how we live that could be infringed upon by authorities. There doesn’t need to be any building or teachings or dogma. Just that said group of people have these certain beliefs they share. I have some friends that have started one. They aren’t religious at all. Some in the group are spiritual but they live off grid, homeschool, use herbal medicine, etc. Those are their protected beliefs. I know it sounds nutty and I’m certainly not saying it’s something we should do but it is an option for a community that might feel Any pressure from authorities on their HG lifestyle. It’s only something to have in the back of the mind I think.

I’ve thought about that for years. The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors just organized as a religion and is getting huge benefits from it.

Another option is to call the nodes movie sets. “No mr code inspector, that’s not an unpermitted composting toilet. It’s a movie prop. Those are gluten free brownies in there. Do you want to taste one?”

I think there’s also a legit inroad to revisionist christianity through things like the anarcho-primitivist christianity journal, “In the Land of the Living”. It appears their website is now offline, but I have their PDFs somewhere. Here’s a list of related sites.

Well, at least I don’t think I’m quite as crazy as before. I know this other group I am familiar with received an official exemption from paying a penalty for not having health coverage with the affordable care act and may use things like peyote and cannabis during ceremonial gatherings which the local sheriff has agreed in writing is protected. They also listed things like living without electricity or raw milk consumption.
I figured it could be something some groups could us if necessary. It also wouldn’t have to be advertised, only among the group, to avoid cult labeling.

I have considered this off and on. I have a name and super basic creed, which I’ll keep to myself for the moment.
