Land in California

Does anyone know of anyone with land in California who would be open to a young couple who live out of a converted schoolbus to park our vehicle and practice wilderness living skills?

So ideally, I’d love to join the kind of rewilding-oriented, non-hierarchical intentional community that this site promotes. I know nothing like it exists in the West, but in the mean time I’m willing to settle for living on or at least visiting land that someone else owns. I’d prefer not to have to pay money to be there, but am open to trading skills or potentially labor. I’m also quite extroverted and want to be living in a situation where I have access to socializing with other people, so that would be a nice bonus. I’m also open to places in Washington, Oregon, or potentially AZ, NM, or CO.

Hi There, Welcome!

You may want to seek out people in person at the Buckeye Gathering (buckeyegathering.net) in Sonoma County, CA. Or Echoes in Time in Monmouth,Oregon in July. Or Saskatoon Circle gathering in Twisp, WA in late September. I find that many people with land who have a rewilding oriented background go to these gatherings. I’ll be at Echoes and Saskatoon myself (I hope).

Best of luck, Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve already contemplated going to these kinds of events, but don’t really want to spend all the money required to attend them. My primary interest in attending these events would be the networking and socializing, since I already have a lot of knowledge of actual skills and don’t desire to pay money to people to learn them (and even the work-trade option involves paying some amount of money). Do you know if the gatherings have list-serves that I could post to rather than having to attend them? Thanks.

I don’t know if there is a list-serv like that. Usually gatherings just send one-way e-mails to people about different events. Like here http://buckeyegathering.net/contact/

Maybe start your own listserv? Create a gathering for rewilders that’s cheap or free?

Sally,
Are you interested in collaborating with the Feralculture project?

Hi Jennifer,
Yes we would love to collaborate with the Feralculture project. We’ve been following this site and others for a long time and are impressed with the progress. We have been working on our project for many years and are just about ready to offer opportunities for a few people. My husband Joe is more directly involved and can give more detailed responses. He doesn’t do Facebook, but can be reached at [email protected]. We’ll be looking forward to hearing from you and seeing how we can work together.
Thanks!
Sally

Sally, you and Joe have been on my mind. We’re working on the mechanics of associating new nodes, and would like your help. I’ve set up a test discussion for a hypothetical node in your region, and set you as “owner” of the discussion thread. If you don’t want to participate for whatever reason, that’s okay, I’ll still happily resume email discussions with Joe. Here’s that thread: https://circle.feralculture.com/t/northern-california-in-progress/2544/1

Here’s a new thread where we’re trying to flesh out the process: https://circle.feralculture.com/t/new-node-process/2537/6. Some of the discussion is going on in our Facebook group, but we’ll try to keep the forums updated with the important stuff too.

Either way, I’ll email Joe and check in.
