Handmade containers

jon & i are sitting here computing on this gloomy, windy, sideways-rainy ketchikan day, & he says he just saw a post from someone asking people to share photos of their handmade containers. he asks if i want to send him some photos to put up. of course, i can’t resist. and this is the result. do you have handmade containers to share?

Thank you for this post! Baskets and containers is one skill I’ve done very little to learn more and improve but its one of my goals this year to get better at so I can start making things I can use.

awesome! glad you enjoyed the post, so excited for you to be working on it this year. making containers is SO SATISFYING to me. like, so much so that even typing that in all caps wasn’t enough. and i gotta say, moving north & switching to bark basketry over woven basketry has been way fun, almost like a magical cheat code to make my life easier. though i liked weaving, too. and i love felting. and i love using furs/skins. i just love all of it. and then i get to carry it around, or put things in it. ahh, containers. this year i’d like to make myself a nice backpack/packbasket/something.

also, if anyone on here has had success/experience making waterskins out of hide, stomach, or bladder, PLEASE let me know! or point me to solid resources/how-to’s/etc.

that looks awesome! lots of nice detail, too. thanks for sharing  maybe this year i’ll figure out a way to harvest enough veg. tanning material to try that out. should be interesting while living on a sailboat.

The constant rocking of the boat will help with the tanning.
