My partner and I are currently traveling around SE Asia, and are both interested in visiting New Zealand before we go back home to the States. However, we’d much rather meet and hang out with a local who is into rewilding than do the clueless tourist thing. We’d love to spend time in the wilderness, and do some foraging if possible. Also feel free to respond if you know someone who’s not on this forum but would be interested in hanging out with us in NZ. Thanks!

There are some NZ folks on the Facebook side of things. I’ll cross-post this and see of anything comes of it.
Cool thanks!
It is pretty easy to avoid the canned tourist experience here. Beaches rivers national parks are all accessible. Sea fishing and the gathering of shell fish is mostly unrestricted… river fishing you will need a license. Kiwis tend to be fairly laid back about things. I know a bit more about the South Island because that is where I am from… it really depends on the kind of thing that you want to do
